Not quite a Hobbits tale, however we are enroute. Arcing over North America, touching Frankfurt and landing in Vienna. Home to paintings by Gustav Klimt and baroque palaces.

We take a train to Sopron, Hungary where tomorrow we start day 1. Fifteen miles is the kickoff distance.

All the prep in weighing our packs, travel restrictions, racing to the airport and fretting about timing comes down to this. A starting point of 11 hikers in a group wending our way across many countries. It may feel like the journey across middle earth but we expect to see lovely countries and wonderful people more than dragons.

This hike follows along some of the Iron Curtain and was first started on the 100th Anniversary of World War I.
