Dash, Splash, Crash
Last day of this walk and we leave our last hostel and its ambitious goats who enjoy plucking food from the trees.
Out through the fields and down, down, down we go over rock and dry water paths to the border.
We dashed across the border with only our own group as witness. Nary a bird to take notice as we move from Slovenia to Italy.
We paused for a moment atop the limestone ridge that is our path on this final day. The spacious view from the cliffs to Trieste and the Adriatic spread before us in the bright glare of sun.
We continued the long descent to the city and the sea, pausing only for lunch. Finally we reach the last instruction of our guide book – enter the “Piazza dell’ Uniate d’ Italia” plaza and take our picture in front of the “Fontana dei Quattro Continenti”.
Wait! A footnote suggests we dip our very hot and tired toes in the Adriatic! It’s about 100 steps to the sea from the plaza.
Tiredly we gather ourselves for this last item as it does sound good.
However upon careful assessment we decide toes isn’t enough and we all jump in to the Adriatic to cool ourselves. A fabulous treat.

Now we are done for the day and we are crashed and resting. I’ll post until we’re home and share our final few days.
