I recall the quick tap of high heels as my mother and I raced through the cavernous station to catch a train. That quick tap, tap, tap of a polite hurry. We’ve walked through cities, fields and paths enjoying the place and time swirling around us at that moment. She is ever the adventurer and I am too.
One of the many paths for steps is where I’m headed next. Camino de Santiago, the Portuguese route. A walk of 150 miles from Porto, Portugal to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Walking this path will label me a “pilgrim” but I think I prefer the term “wanderer”.
Thinking of all the others who have or will wander this path, I’m excited to become a part of it’s past, present and future travelers. If you read about some of the journeys, people speak of being transformed by the experience. But the descriptions fall short of the fullness of the journey.
Being present, moving through the unknown daily encounters, and open to movement through place and time of limited boundaries brings its own pleasure.
October 15, 2019 starts the journey and I’ll be writing my wanderings as I go.
