We’re on day 2 from LaBruge to Villa do Conde.
Cats and dogs. Everywhere! I mean rain and lots of it. When you put on hiking sandals so the water will run out instead of in- it’s really raining.
We donned raincoats with hoods, backpack rain covers, broad brimmed hats and garbage bag skirts. Yes, skirts. Generally speaking we found from the knees down it’s a lost cause to strive to stay dry.
Fifty to 60 degree weather with rain pouring isn’t that cold as long as you don’t have leaks.
To keep water running off my brim and not on my face I found today to be a contemplative pace striding on the boardwalk. Crashing waves to the left. Click, click, click of my pole on the boards.
Comfort. We think we know what that is.
Most often I associate it with things. Things that make me feel better. But in context of today it wasn’t a thing that would bring comfort in the rain.
It’s the other older meaning of comfort. The old Latin basis which is to give strength or fortify.

My hiking partner, Natalie, and I had comfort today. It was the mutual experience of walking in the rain which brought strength, comfort.
So we had comfort in the rain, soaking wet and laughing through the experience – even in ankle deep water that we waded through.
Tonight we rested with excellent food and gratitude for a warm dry place to lay our heads.

Next we will head east to the interior route and continue north toward Santiago.
