Moments of stillness wash over me on the road. Today, the voices of angels singing drifted on the warm breeze as a dog barked at our passing. A church was serenading us on our way.
Early in the morning we caught a ride to the interior Camino Portuguese to start our walk at Rates.

The perfect sun followed us through eucalyptus groves, past vineyards, roadside shrines and villages. It was like walking through a film such as Enchanted April.
We finished our 9 mile day with a stroll through the town of Barcelos where the locals were gathered in the city park after late church services.
Music played as couples danced to another era of music. A black and white film from the 40’s.
We found a little local cafe that offered a Pilgrims meal for 10 euros. Soup, potatoes, rice, pork, mixed salad, wine, dessert and coffee.
The stroll back to our hostel led us past myths and ruins lit by lamps. Lovely day!
