The Creative Desert of a pandemic world has been a struggle. In being overwhelmed with news and underwhelmed with clarity of where will this all end, I am ashamed to see that others have a clarity I’ve never seen.
Clarity can come from seeing injustice. Or a personal experience that brings the contrasts deeply into focus. I’ve been inspired by John Lewis (and a bit of ashamed of myself for lack of clarity) . He had clarity. His is the long view. His is the view of a more perfect world and society.
This was his view at the end;
“Though I may not be here with you, I urge you to answer the highest calling of your heart and stand up for what you truly believe. In my life I have done all I can to demonstrate that the way of peace, the way of love and nonviolence is the more excellent way. Now it is your turn to let freedom ring.
When historians pick up their pens to write the story of the 21st century, let them say that it was your generation who laid down the heavy burdens of hate at last and that peace finally triumphed over violence, aggression and war. So I say to you, walk with the wind, brothers and sisters, and let the spirit of peace and the power of everlasting love be your guide.”
-John Lewis 20′
So I’m looking farther than the near horizon, the next email or the next news cycle circus. I want to be part of his vision and clarity. Because his world is my world and I’ve sat too long in the old world. Metamorphosis is scary and wonderful. My adventures this year were derailed, I thought. But maybe I only mean they were not my adventures anyway, but what life hands me to experience.

Keep the clarity. Look past the horizon and know that the rain will pass and the sun will shine again. Hopefully, shine on the world that John saw.
